Economic Observation Network According to the CCTV News app, Christophe Leribert, the director of the Louvre Museum in France, recently stated that if the Louvre is not repaired, adjusted, and renovated, its status will rapidly decline and it may eventually have to be closed to the public.
According to reports from France on the 14th, nearly a year after the jewelry robbery at the Louvre, Le Libeau admitted that the Louvre is currently in a difficult situation, with problems with its facilities, equipment, and buildings, as well as increasing risks related to climate and cybersecurity. The museum has started repairing escalators, doors and windows, lighting and air conditioning systems, and continues to advance emergency security projects.
In October 2025, four masked individuals divided the theft inside and outside the Louvre Museum, stealing multiple precious jewelry pieces displayed within minutes. Except for one crown that was found by the police, the other stolen jewelry has not been recovered yet. The robbery exposed many loopholes in the security and other aspects of the Louvre Museum, and the then director Laurences de Carr resigned in February this year.
When talking about the prospects for the implementation of French President Macron's "New Renaissance of the Louvre" plan, Leribo said that due to the need to raise private funds and obtain administrative permits, the renovation project can only start after the next presidential election, and the project still needs to be approved by the next government before it can be launched. He emphasized that regardless of how the next government is formed, it must recognize that if the Louvre Museum is not repaired, adjusted, and renovated, its status will rapidly decline and ultimately have to close its doors to the public, which will be a disaster.
Leribo expressed the hope that the new entrance and exhibition hall planned for the "Louvre Renaissance" plan can be put into use within five to six years, and a comprehensive renovation is expected to take 12 to 15 years. He said that since the museum will still be open to the public during the construction period, the related projects must be implemented in stages.
