Economic Observation Network According to a recent survey conducted by CCTV News, over 1000 types of food prices are expected to rise in the Japanese market in June this year. According to Japanese media, due to the impact of the Middle East situation, the costs of raw materials and packaging materials have risen, and it is expected that the trend of food price increases in Japan will continue in the coming months.
Japan's Imperial Database Company conducted a survey of 195 major food and beverage producers nationwide, inquiring about their intention to increase prices. The results show that in June, there will be a price increase for 1078 types of food in the Japanese market, including processed foods, seasonings, and edible oils. Among them, the price increase of instant noodles is 6% to 10%, edible oil is 11% to 15%, and potato chips is 5% to 30%.
According to the company's analysis, the main reasons for the food price increase in Japan in June include rising raw material prices, increased logistics costs, and rising packaging material prices. Due to the tense situation in the Middle East, the supply of crude oil derivatives such as naphtha is insufficient, and the cost of plastic packaging materials and printing ink has significantly increased. Many companies have expressed that they cannot afford it and have to choose to adjust prices.
According to data released by the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications on May 22, excluding fresh food, the core consumer price index (CPI) in Japan rose to 112.5 in April, a year-on-year increase of 1.4%, marking the 56th consecutive month of year-on-year increase. Data shows that food prices continue to rise significantly, with coffee beans and chocolate prices increasing by 46.8% and 21.6% respectively.
