Tens of thousands of nurses go on strike in New York, USA, demanding improved healthcare coverage

Economic Observation Network According to CCTV News, on January 12th local time, nurses from 10 large private hospitals in New York City, USA, launched a strike on the same day, with about 15000 nurses leaving their posts, demanding an increase in staffing, protection of medical benefits, and strengthened protection of medical staff from workplace violence. Several hospitals in New York are expected to face severe staffing shortages. New York City Mayor Mamdani appeared at the strike site to show support.

New York Governor Casey Hochul announced last week that the state has entered a state of disaster emergency, allowing out of state and foreign medical personnel to temporarily fill positions. The state of emergency will continue until February 8th.
