The scientific research team recently compared the DNA of two giant pandas' feces, and the results showed that they belonged to two independent individuals, which confirmed that two or more wild giant pandas were active in Jiuzhaigou Valley Scenic and Historic Interest Area National Nature Reserve.

According to the staff of the Reserve, the Jiuzhaigou Valley Scenic and Historic Interest Area 7.0 earthquake in 2017 caused mountain collapse and vegetation damage in some local areas, and the habitat of giant pandas was once fragmented. There was no trace of wild giant pandas for many years thereafter. The successive appearance of two giant pandas indicates that the damaged ecosystem is continuing to recover, and the giant panda population has begun to actively return and reuse this homeland. This has profound significance for the long-term continuation of the giant panda population in the northern part of the Minshan Mountains.

At present, Jiuzhaigou Valley Scenic and Historic Interest Area National Nature Reserve has added infrared cameras in Changhai, Danzu Valley and surrounding key areas, expanded the monitoring grid, and continuously tracked the activities of giant pandas. Continue to implement low disturbance management measures within the protected area to minimize the impact of human activities on wildlife and leave a more complete and peaceful ecological space for rare species, including giant pandas.
