On the evening of August 12th, the Wolf Walk Public Welfare Emergency Rescue Team in Lin'an District received an urgent alarm: someone was trapped on the mountain, roughly at Tonggongjian. Seven rescue team members, two police officers, and three firefighters rushed straight to the scene.
Tonggongjian has an altitude of about 1558 meters and is one of the "Three Peaks of Western Zhejiang" (Taizi Peak, Baizhang Ridge, Tonggongjian). The terrain is complex and mostly undeveloped, with high mountains and dense forests, thorns and thorns, intermittent mobile phone signals, and low nighttime temperatures, which can easily lead to getting lost or losing temperature.
Zhejiang Sanjian is located in the western part of Lin'an, starting from the Qingliang Peak area in the south and ending at the Zhejiang West Grand Canyon area in the north. The temperature is 6-10 ℃ lower than the plain, and the winter snow, sunrise, and cloud sea landscapes attract a large number of hiking enthusiasts. It is a popular outdoor destination in the Yangtze River Delta region.
At 9:40 that evening, Chen Min, the deputy captain of the Wolf Rescue Team, led the team to the foot of Tonggongjian Mountain and began climbing to search for the trapped. The mountain road is steep and very difficult to climb. Chen Min told reporters that after passing the place where local farmers plant walnut trees, there is no way up the mountain.
After an hour and a half of arduous trekking, the trapped young man was finally found at an altitude of about 1300 meters, sitting on a folding chair. Seeing the rescue personnel and police officers, the young man was very excited and said, 'I'm causing trouble for you.'.
The young man had multiple abrasions on his feet and knees, and Chen Min helped him down the mountain. After walking for more than 40 minutes, both of them were exhausted, and the young man was walking with great difficulty, almost unable to take a step.
The team members rotated with the young man, slowly descending the mountain, stopping and walking, and finally arrived at the walnut forest, where there were small trains transporting walnuts. The team members helped the young man board the small train.
Arriving at the foot of the mountain in the early hours of the morning, the reception team immediately disinfected and treated the young man's wounds.
The young man said he was from Suzhou and rushed to Lin'an alone to climb Tong Gongjian.
Why choose Tong Gongjian? The reason given by the young man shocked the on-site rescue personnel.
The young man said that he and his wife had a quarrel over trivial matters that day, and they were feeling depressed, so they wanted to go out for a walk. Without a clear goal at the moment, I remembered the AI software I often use on my phone and sought help from AI.
After asking him in detail about his psychology, personality, height, and physical fitness, AI solemnly recommended an outdoor route to the young man: Tonggongjian in Lin'an, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province.
The young man firmly believes in the recommendation of AI. With the guidance of "high-tech", he confidently headed straight from Suzhou to Lin'an, Hangzhou.
But after climbing onto Tong Gongjian, the young man fell and got injured, trapped at an altitude of over 1300 meters. I became increasingly scared after dark, but luckily there was still a mobile phone signal, so I called for rescue.
This is the first time we have encountered tourists who rely on AI to guide outdoor routes in so many years of rescue missions. ”The captain of the Wolf Rescue Team, Shen Xiaobin, said.
Why did AI recommend the route of Tonggongjian?
Shen Xiaobin analyzed that AI's expertise lies in data integration. Many backpackers may have shared Tong Gongjian's hiking guide online, which was captured and integrated by AI for the young man.
This AI recommended route is definitely not reliable. I asked the young man about his situation, and he said he rarely climbs mountains or engages in outdoor activities. A route like Tong Gongjian, which constantly rises in altitude, is definitely unbearable for him. ”
Shen Xiaobin said that more importantly, the AI only recommended routes to the young man and did not remind him of what to prepare for outdoor activities. The young man brought almost no equipment, only a folding chair, and surprisingly only a pair of sneakers on his feet.
As a well-known outdoor route "Zhejiang West Sanjian", Tonggongjian has experienced multiple incidents of tourists being trapped.
In November 2025, Mr. Ren, who was 31 years old, and two companions were hiking at Tonggongjian in Baizhangling when they suffered ankle sprains and fractures, and the three of them were trapped on the mountaintop at an altitude of over 1500 meters. The Wolf Rescue Team and police searched for the trapped person for 2 hours and safely escorted them down the mountain for medical treatment.
In December 2024, a hiker named He got lost while climbing down the Tonggongjian mountain and was trapped in an undeveloped area at an altitude of over 1500 meters. The night temperature approached 0 ℃, and the rescue team found the exhausted He at 3am the next day and escorted him down the mountain.
In October 2017, three 90s boys and girls from Hangzhou got lost due to physical exhaustion while crossing Tonggongjian and were trapped for 8 hours. The rescue team spent several hours searching for three people in the bushes and by the valley stream. The rescued girl burst into tears on the spot.
Rescue personnel remind: Before climbing, it is necessary to understand the route situation in advance, choose a hiking trail with appropriate difficulty, prepare necessary equipment such as anti slip shoes, hiking poles, first aid kits, etc., and do not venture into undeveloped areas.
If you accidentally get injured or trapped while climbing, stay calm and immediately call 110 to report your location, injuries, and the situation of your companions. Please keep your energy and patiently wait for rescue.
