German President Steinmeier visits Volkswagen Hefei base to personally experience intelligent driving assistance systems and autonomous parking
On October 27th, German President Steinmeier arrived in Anhui to begin his 5-day state visit to China, with the first stop being the Hefei base of Volkswagen Group (China). Steinmeier visited Volkswagen (China) Technology Co., Ltd. (VCTC), visited the software and hardware integration and testing laboratory, and learned about Volkswagen's complete process of developing new intelligent electric vehicles in China. Steinmeier personally test drove a Volkswagen ID AURA T6 model. The car is equipped with the CEA vehicle electronic and electrical system architecture jointly developed by Volkswagen and Xiaopeng, as well as the advanced driving assistance system jointly developed by Volkswagen and Horizon Robotics. Steinmeier fully handed over control of the vehicle to the system on a test track with obstacles, and after getting off the car, experienced the automatic unmanned parking function of the vehicle through a mobile phone. In Anhui, the time for Volkswagen to develop a new car has been shortened to about two years, and the cost of some new cars can be optimized by up to 50%. Volkswagen's innovative research and development capabilities in Hefei have benefited several major research and development centers in Germany, and Hefei has become Volkswagen's main vehicle export base.
