Intel joins Musk chip project
According to CCTV Finance, on the 7th local time, Intel announced on social media that it will join Musk's previously announced large-scale chip manufacturing project and cooperate to promote semiconductor manufacturing and high-performance chip research and development. Affected by this news, Intel's stock price rose more than 4% on the 7th. Analysis shows that Intel has been seeking external foundry customers for many years, but has not made substantial progress. This cooperation with a company under Musk may become a key breakthrough for Intel to expand its wafer foundry business. In March of this year, Musk announced the construction of a large chip manufacturing center in Austin, Texas, USA. The project will be jointly promoted by Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI. Musk stated that this manufacturing center will integrate the entire process of chip manufacturing, including design, lithography, packaging, testing, etc. The current goal is to mass produce 2-nanometer process chips. Analysts say that Musk's ambitious plan faces many challenges in terms of technology, time, and funding. According to analysts from investment research firm Bernstein, based on very rough estimates, the capital expenditure scale to achieve Musk's plan is as high as $5 trillion to $13 trillion (approximately RMB 34 trillion to RMB 88.8 trillion).
